“denthe” is a derivation of my name: the first 3 letters of my first name and the first three letters of my last name. When I was 18 and had to choose what I wanted to study, I decided to study Psychology and keep art for my free time. But, well, you know how it is: graduating, working and starting a family leaves you very little time for hobbies. But the yearning to paint remained. So when, in 2004 , a friend suggested I go with him to a painting club, I gladly accepted, and I’ve been addicted since. In 2008 I stopped working for a boss to concentrate solely on my family and my art.
My painting style is self-taught and intuitive. I often take part in workshops, and I devour art books and internet tutorials. I like different styles, but characteristic are the abundant colors and the presence of human beings and birds. I love to turn everyday items into colorful and special objects, using a variety of techniques. My work always carries some fantasy element, that surprises, makes you want to look twice and discover new things. In addition I like to use the dotpainting-technique. This technique is originally from the Aboriginals in Australia. They used to draw their figures in the sand, and the drawings have a great symbolical value. I don't use symbols in my dotpaintings, I just think it is a fascinating technique that often gives surprising results.
Besides painting, I also love to make mosaics. I usually make my own mosaic tiles and turn my drawings into wooden figures that I can put my mosaic pieces onto.
Another passion of mine is poetry. I like to combine it with painting, by using fragments of my paintings with a suitable text or poem, and make postcards out of it.
My mother language is Dutch, but since I want to communicate with as many people as possible, my website is in English. If you want to contact me, you can write in Dutch or English.
